Storms Postpone Region 9 Soccer; Busy Weekend Ahead for Local and College Teams
Thunderstorms rolled through Southern Utah Thursday night, forcing the postponement of Region 9 girls soccer matches. Affected contests will be rescheduled.
In volleyball, Dixie High picked up a key Region 9 win, defeating Snow Canyon. At the college level, Utah Tech’s women’s volleyball team opened Western Athletic Conference play with a statement victory over rival Southern Utah University in Cedar City.
Looking ahead to football action Friday night, Region 9 features three big matchups: Crimson Cliffs visits Snow Canyon, Hurricane takes on Pine View, and Dixie heads to Desert Hills. All games to start at 7:00pm.
On Saturday, Utah Tech football travels to Tennessee to face Austin Peay. Kickoff is set for noon, with coverage live on 99.5 and 95.3 The Fan Sports Network. Meanwhile, Southern Utah University will host undefeated West Georgia in Cedar City, with kickoff at 6:30 p.m.
On the pro scene, the Vegas Golden Knights edged the Utah Mammoth 3-2 in overtime. In the NBA, the Utah Jazz announced they will wear a commemorative patch this season to honor legendary coach Frank Layden. The team also added depth to its roster with the signing of center Mo Bamba.
