Number 32 will hang in the rafters at BYU as Jimmer Fredette is honored with jersey retirement

Provo, Utah – The legend continues for BYU Basketball’s Jimmer Fredette as he will have his jersey retired by the Cougars. The jersey retirement ceremony will take place in the Marriott Center on February 14, 2026 when BYU takes on Colorado.

Fredette has met the few, yet lofty accomplishments needed to retire a jersey with BYU. He had to be an All-American and receive a major award in his sport. There is also a 15 year waiting period after his departure from BYU. Jimmer received the Wooden Award and became an All-American in his final season with BYU, paving the way to his jersey retirement now, fifteen years later.

Fredette’s Legacy

Jimmer Fredette was a star player at BYU playing from 2008-2011. His collegiate career is highlighted by his shooting ability from distance, including a stat line that cemented him as one of the greatest in school history.

Jimmer averaged an impressive 28.9 points per game while shooting 39.6% from the three in his final season at BYU. The Cougars took a 3 seed into the tournament that year, losing in overtime to number 2, Florida, in the Sweet Sixteen.

Fredette was one of, if not the best college basketball player in the country in 2011. Jimmer Mania was in full swing in the spring of that year, bringing national attention to Provo, Utah.

Jimmer would be drafted with the 10th overall pick in 2011 by the Milwaukee Bucks, but would then be traded to the Sacramento Kings on draft night. He played professionally from 2011-2019, with a portion of that time in China playing for the Shanghai Sharks where he averaged over 30 points per game.

Jimmer is now retired and lives in Colorado with his wife, Whitney, and their children. He hosts a basketball podcast called From The Logo with Jimmer Fredette.
