ST. GEORGE — The Trailblazers have a new media home.
According to a press release, Canyon Media and Utah Tech University Athletics announced Thursday they have agreed to a new five-year multimedia agreement.
Beginning this fall and running through the 2026-27 season, all Trailblazer football and men’s basketball games, including comprehensive pregame and postgame coverage, will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Southern Utah (99.5 FM in St. George; 93.1 FM/1400 AM in Cedar City).
The agreement also will feature select coverage of several other Trailblazer athletic events throughout the year.
“We are thrilled to partner with Utah Tech Athletics and provide southern Utah and Trailblazer fans around the world coverage on air and online through our broadcasts and news sites,” said Canyon Media General Manager Ben Lindquist. “We think there is something special happening at Utah Tech and we can’t wait to highlight the outstanding teams, coaches and student-athletes.”
Along with complete radio coverage, a 30-minute weekly coaches show will air on Fox Sports Southern Utah.
In addition, St. George News (www.stgeorgeutah.com) will provide enhanced year-round coverage of Utah Tech Athletics, highlighted by weekly Trailblazer student-athlete, coach and team feature stories and video packages.
“I was pleased with the overall vision that Canyon Media presented to us in becoming partners as we continue our NCAA Division I transition,” UT Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ken Beazer said.
“This partnership moves Trailblazer athletics beyond just having a radio broadcast. The ability to enhance and expand not only our gameday coverage, while also creating new and innovative content, to our fans both locally and regionally is exciting for us,” Beazer added, “and will give us the look and feel of a Division I program. We look forward to building a strong relationship with Canyon Media in the coming years.”
The Trailblazers have 15 intercollegiate athletic programs and just completed the second year of their transition to NCAA Division I status as a competing member of the Western Athletic Conference.
As previously reported in St. George News, the WAC’s Board of Directors voted to allow Utah Tech to participate in all conference championships, beginning with the upcoming 2022-23 competition season.
