It was a packed weekend across Southern Utah sports, with state titles, big-time region matchups, and college action all in play.

High School Sports
Desert Hills Girls Tennis wrapped up an impressive season by finishing 2nd overall at the State Championships, capping off a strong year for the Thunder.

On the gridiron, Region 9 football delivered another slate of hard-fought games. Pine View held off Desert Hills for a 23-16 win at home, while Hurricane defended its home turf with a 38-24 victory over Snow Canyon. Crimson Cliffs dominated Dixie, taking a commanding 35-7 win. Up north, Cedar stayed undefeated, defeating cross-town rival Canyon View 35-14.

Utah Tech Athletics
The Trailblazers football team fell just short against Central Arkansas, losing 23-17. Utah Tech had opportunities late in the fourth quarter but couldn’t find consistency on third downs. More coverage is available at thefansn.com.

In soccer, Utah Tech men’s soccer battled UNLV to a 0-0 draw, while women’s soccer came up short at Tarleton State, losing 4-3 despite a strong effort. Brie Koscielski netted two goals and Nicole Choren added one more in the loss.

Meanwhile, Trailblazer volleyball continues to roll — taking down Utah Valley in four sets and claiming sole possession of first place in the WAC standings.

Southern Utah University
SUU football went toe-to-toe with Tarleton State, ultimately falling 52-42 in a high-powered offensive showdown. The Thunderbirds showed off the second-ranked offense in the UAC, but couldn’t keep pace with Tarleton’s top-ranked attack.

SUU women’s soccer struggled on the road, losing 4-0 to Abilene Christian, but volleyball delivered a thrilling five-set win over Cal Baptist. Emery DeJong led the Thunderbirds with 18 kills and a block.

Both SUU and Utah Tech also competed in the Color Country Invitational. On the women’s side, Utah Tech finished 2nd, SUU 3rd, with UVU taking first. In the men’s division, SUU placed 2nd, while Utah Tech took 3rd.

Pro Sports
The Utah Mammoth picked up a massive 6-4 win over the San Jose Sharks in preseason play. They’ll open the regular season Thursday in Colorado. The Vegas Golden Knights will start their season at home on Wednesday.

The Las Vegas Raiders were blown out in Indianapolis, drawing frustration from fans and even NBA star Damian Lillard, who chimed in on social media suggesting a trade for Shedeur Sanders.
