17 Oct Snow Canyon and Desert Hills move on to Semi-Finals, plus a busy week in Utah Sports

ST. GEORGE — Region 9 continues to deliver in postseason play as Desert Hills and Snow Canyon advance to the Girls Soccer 4A State Semi-Finals.
Desert Hills pulled off an impressive upset, defeating Green Canyon 2-1. Meanwhile, Snow Canyon took down rival Crimson Cliffs to punch their ticket to the next round. The two Region 9 standouts will now face each other in Herriman at Zions Bank Stadium on Monday, October 20th, at 2:30 p.m., with a trip to the state title match on the line.
On the gridiron, the Region 9 Championship comes down to tonight. Pine View will try to share the crown with a win over Crimson Cliffs, while the Mustangs aim to claim it outright. Elsewhere, Snow Canyon visits Dixie, and Hurricane travels to Desert Hills.
The Fan Sports Network will be streaming Pine View at Crimson Cliffs and Snow Canyon at Dixie.
In Region 9 Volleyball, the regular season wrapped up last night. Crimson Cliffs took down Hurricane 3-1, Pine View beat Dixie 3-1, and Desert Hills swept Snow Canyon 3-0. Playoffs begin October 23rd, and The Southern Utah Sports Report will have a full bracket breakdown next week.
At the college level, Utah Tech Women’s Soccer earned revenge against Tarleton State with a 1-0 victory at Greater Zion Stadium. Lataya Brost netted the game-winner, and Brianna Frey posted the shutout for the Trailblazers.
In Cedar City, SUU Football returns home this weekend to take on #13 Abilene Christian—their final tune-up before next week’s Battle for the Axe rivalry game against Utah Tech.
On the pro side, the Utah Jazz closed out preseason play with a thrilling 132-129 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Walker Kessler made a strong return from injury, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.
The Vegas Golden Knights picked up a wild 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins, while the Utah Mammoth face off tonight against the San Jose Sharks.
And in the NFL, the Las Vegas Raiders look to stay hot as they take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
