Desert Hills and Snow Canyon fight for a spot in the Championship, Bracket breakdown for Football and Volleyball

Region 9 Girls Soccer

Two Region 9 teams will go head-to-head for the third time this season. The Snow Canyon Warriors and the Desert Hills Thunder will face off in the Semi-Final matchup tonight at 7:30 at Greater Zion Stadium on the campus of Utah Tech University.

The first time these two teams faced off it was Desert Hills getting the win over Snow Canyon 2-1. Snow Canyon would get revenge in the rematch with their own 2-1 victory.

Snow Canyon will be the designated home team tonight as they are the higher ranked team through the UHSAA RPI ranking. The winner of this matchup will head to America First Field in Sandy for the 4A State Championship game.

High School Football

The regular season has come to a close. The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs have earned the right to call themselves Region Champions for the fourth season in a row. This program, led by head coach Wayne Alofipo, will head into the post season with the 2 seed and will have a bye through the first round. Three other Region 9 teams will also have a bye through the first round. 3 seed Snow Canyon Warriors, 4 seed Hurricane Tigers, and 6 Seed Pine View Panthers.

The Dixie Flyers and the Desert Hills Thunder will go on the road for the first round. Dixie will be in Salt Lake at Highland High School and Desert Hills with be in Cache Valley to take on Green Canyon.

In other classifications, the Cedar Reds hold the top spot in 3A. They will get a bye through the first round and could face cross town rival Canyon View in the second round. The Falcons will host Ogden in the first round. The Semi-Finals will be held at SUU and the championship will be at Zions Bank Stadium.

The Kanab Cowboys have taken the top spot in 1A football. They get a bye and will face the winner of Gunnison Valley and North Sevier. Beaver will host Parowan. The first time these two teams met it was Beaver getting the win 55-14. The Enterprise Wolves will be on the road at Duchesne. Winners of those matchups will face each other in the second round. Semi-Finals for 1A will be held at SUU while the Championship will be at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.

High School Volleyball

The state brackets for volleyball were revealed earlier today. Every Region 9 Volleyball team earned a home game either in the first or second rounds. There are three teams that earned an express trip to the second round; Cedar, Crimson Cliffs, and Desert Hills.

The first round of the playoffs will feature the remaining Region 9 Teams. The Hurricane Tigers will host Tooele, Dixie will host Desert Peak, Pine View will host Jordan, and Snow Canyon will host Stansbury. Every Region 9 team will have a home site game at some point in the playoffs.

Utah Tech

Trailblazers Women’s Soccer shutout Abilene Christian on Sunday with the 2-0 win. The two goals came from two freshman, the first being Jocelyn Wright. They would double the lead with a goal from Abby Olson with the assist from Lataya Brost.

Men’s Soccer fell to San Diego State on Saturday with a 1-2 loss. The lone goal came from Tanner Dutra with the assist by Mitch Williams

Southern Utah

SUU Thunderbirds football got the upset win over Abilene Christian, 31-24. Bronson Barron is back in the lineup at QB for the T-Birds. He threw for 111 yards with one TD and one interception. Running Back Joshua Dye led the rushing game with 181 yards and 2 touchdowns.

SUU defense was the star of the show with three interceptions, five sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Utah Mammoth

The Mammoth are 3-0 in the Tusky era. Since unveiling the new mascot, the Mammoth have outscored opponents 12-6. Their last win came last night against the Bruins with a 3-2 victory. The final goal came with 9:23 left in the 3rd period off the slap shot from Dylan Guenther. The Mammoth have jumped up to tied for 2nd in the Central Division.

Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights have now taken down Calgary twice. Their most recent win on Saturday was a statement, scoring 6 goals to the Flames 1. The next game for the Knights is tonight at 8:00pm.

Las Vegas Raiders

The struggles for the Raiders look as dire as ever after they get shutout on the road to the Kansas City Chiefs 31-0. The Raiders sit with just two wins on the season as they go into the bye week.
